Compressor

"A compressor is a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume." Main Categories of Compressors: 1. Positive Displacement Compressors These work by physically reducing the volume of the gas to increase pressure. a. Reciprocating Compressor (Piston Type) Works like a car engine using pistons. Good for high pressure and low flow. Common in workshops and small industries. b. Rotary Screw Compressor Uses two rotating screws (rotors) to compress air. Continuous flow, less noisy. Often used in industrial plants. c. Rotary Vane Compressor Uses a rotor with vanes that slide in/out. Compact and reliable for moderate pressure and flow. 2. Dynamic Compressors These use high-speed spinning blades to impart velocity and then convert it into pressure. a. Centrifugal Compressor Imparts velocity using an impeller and then converts it to pressure. Great for large volumes of gas. Used in HVAC systems, gas pipelines, jet engines. b. Axial Compressor Compresses air along a straight axis using multiple rows of blades. Common in jet engines and gas turbines.
